Description

Age: 3rd- 8th grade

Day/Time: See Schedule for Dates and Times

During our summer session, students can choose to attend one or two class periods, depending on how much time they want to spend building and refining their bot. Some students may not finish a full build in 4 hours—and 8 hours gives them a lot more time to create, test, and improve (and it’s a lot more fun too). To attend both Battle Bot class periods, be sure to register for both time slots.

Students will design, build, and refine LEGO® Technic battle bots using motors, gears, and moving parts. Along the way, they’ll learn how mechanical design, gearing, balance, and motion all affect performance in a real, hands-on way.

Students can choose to work independently or in small groups, depending on their preference and experience level. For those new to LEGO Technic, guided support is available—students can work alongside Ryan to learn the basics through simple step-by-step builds before branching out into their own designs.

We do not follow pre-made kits or instructions. Every bot is student-designed and built from their own ideas, encouraging creativity, problem-solving, and original thinking. As bots are tested, students will make adjustments, troubleshoot issues, and improve their designs—just like real engineers.

Each session includes different challenges and goals, giving students opportunities to adapt their builds and try new strategies. Whether it’s improving speed, strength, stability, or weapon design, students will continually refine their bots as they test and compete.

All materials are provided.
