Basic Electronics and Logic Gates
Ever wondered how the devices around you actually work? In this hands-on class, we’ll explore the building blocks of electronics, learning how to use breadboards, LEDs, resistors, and buttons with a 5V power supply. Students will light up their first circuits in week one, and then dive into the fascinating world of Logic Gates—the “brains” behind computers.
We’ll experiment with NOT, AND, and OR gates, build circuits that react in surprising ways, and create our own truth tables to understand how electricity makes decisions. Along the way, students will see how these simple parts come together to form the foundation of modern technology—from calculators to video games!
This class is designed to spark curiosity for beginners in 3rd grade and up, while also offering deeper challenges for middle and high school students who want to explore how computers really “think.” If you like hands-on projects, blinking lights, and discovering the secrets of electronics, this class is for you!
For students who joined us in a previous session, come back and keep building with us—returning learners will tackle advanced logic gates (NAND, NOR, XOR, XNOR), explore timers, and get even more hands-on practice designing and building new circuits.
